Download: PowerDirector 13's 6GB RAR file took a while to download and required third-party software to extract. Installation (and reinstallation) may be easier with the boxed CD edition.

Bottom Line

CyberLink PowerDirector 13 Ultra is sophisticated and fun to use, and most similar tools can't compete with its great speed and features.

What do you need to know about free software?

Many have rated this as the #1 Video editing software. I have other feelings but I can't judge it against other companies outside of Microsoft Windows Live Movie Maker. I find Movie Maker to be a far easier program to use albeit lacking a ton of editing features that Power Director 12 offers. Unfortunately, many like myself will NOT use all these features PD12 has to offer and don't really need them. PD 12 does not come glitch free either. It recently has been giving me as many glitches as Movie Maker was giving me, which is the whole reason I purchased PD12 Ultra, to get away from glitches. I have a pretty powerful quad core computer with good memory so I am confident it can handle either program well. All in all, PD12 is a decent program for editing. I would not consider it #1 though considering the glitches and in fact the program has stopped running twice now in the last month during editing. Very much pushing my patience when you are 3/4 way through completing editing a group of clips and having to start over.
Would I recommend this software? Yes. But be aware that you may have issues down the road. Maybe not a big deal to someone wanting the full features it offers, but I need to work in a timely manner and restarting is not an option.
